  • Make sure your dog is well exercised before the fun starts in the evening.
  • Be sure your dogs tags are up to date and securely attached to their collar.
  • Check if your microchip registration is up to date along with a current up to date photo.
  • Turn on the tv or turn on some mellow music to distract your pets from loud noises!
  • Fireworks aren’t always on the 4th, keep in mind of early and late celebrations.
  • Dogs hear louder than humans and it can be scary, especially if it is your dogs first July 4th Celebration.
  • Confirm your pet is in a comfortable and safe spot before leaving, with their favorite blanket or toy.
  • If needed, your vet can proscribe anxiety medication for pets with more severe anxiety. Be sure to call in your prescriptions at least a week in advance.

Is your pet Microchipped?

What is a microchip?
The American Veterinary Medical Association describes a Microchip as a small, electronic chip enclosed in a glass cylinder that is about the size of a grain of rice. The microchip itself does not have a battery-it is activated by a scanner that is passed over the area. The chip transmits the identification number to the scanner, which displays the number on the screen.

How does a microchip help reunite a lost animal with its owner?
When an animal is found and taken to a shelter or veterinary clinic, one of the first things the staff does is scan the animal for a microchip. If they find a microchip, and the microchip registry has accurate information, then your pet will be quickly reunited!
Does a microchip replace identification tags and rabies tags?
No, microchips are great for permeant identification that is tamper-proof, but nothing replaces a collar with up to date identification tags.

What should you do to maintain your pet’s microchip?
1) Make sure the microchip is registered.
2) Ask your vet to scan your pets microchip at least once a year to make sure the microchip is still functioning and can be detected.
3) Keep your registration information up to date.
