Camping With your Pet

Another fun activity to do with your pet is camping! Camping is a great way for both you and your dog to enjoy the outdoors! Camping also comes with its dangers so here are some tips to keep your dog safe while spending a night under the stars. First double check that the campsite is dog friendly and check any rules they may have in regards to keeping your dog on a leash etc. Pack the essentials for your dog, enough food for your stay, fresh water bottles, and bowls (collapsible bowls are a great option). Depending on the camp grounds terrain, dog boots may be necessary. Dog boots can protect from rocks and debris if you plan to hike. Another must have item is a dog first aid kit! Check out our blog post from the month of April, “Pet First Aid Awareness Month” for a list of what to include in your kit. One danger of camping in the woods is ticks. Preform a tick check daily while camping by running your hands over your dogs’ body, focusing around the face, neck, and ears and remove any found. Lastly, always keep an eye on your pet! This is a new and exciting environment for your dog, never leave them unattended. Furthermore, make sure your dog has its collar on with your phone number at all times in case they explore to far. Overall camping is a great and enriching experience, make sure to have fun!
